High water levels on the River Avon at Evesham have forced the closure of the Cotswold Line between Moreton-in-Marsh and Worcester on Friday, November 15.
Network Rail made the decision after an inspection of the water levels at the bridges which carry the line over the river east and west of Evesham. Both have piers in the centre of the river channel.
Great Western Railway (GWR) said that the closure was expected to last until the end of the day, with an emergency timetable in place between Oxford and Moreton-in-Marsh and some trains between London and Worcester diverted to run on the route via Swindon and Cheltenham.
Buses were being arranged to replace trains at stations between Moreton-in-Marsh and Worcester from about 11am.
Heavy rainfall the previous day had caused two temporary closures of the line, with floodwater on the tracks at both Moreton-in-Marsh and at the northern end of Chipping Campden tunnel.
