Donations

The group always welcomes donations from members and elsewhere, either for a specific purpose, or to support general funds. Many members generously add a donation at the time of renewing their annual subscriptions. The Committee uses general fund donations to provide support for funding of improved facilities at stations and to create publicity to promote greater use of the railway.

Legacies

We received two very generous legacies from the estates of two of our key Committee members, both of whom sadly died suddenly from heart attacks.

Oliver Lovell was the founding Chairman of the group, and sat on the Committee continuously until his sudden death, actually on the platform at his local station, Moreton in Marsh.

John Stanley was our long standing Membership Secretary, but also edited the members Newsletter, and was instrumental in arrangements for our annual charter trains for many years. He died on the street in his home town of Charlbury while returning from a shopping trip. John also took a keen interest in the garden and flower displays at Charlbury, and we have provided a seat and intend to provide a memorial plaque to him in the revitalised garden on the Oxford platform.

Each of them left us £10,000, and we used these funds towards providing a £25,000 contribution to the cost of a new waiting and meeting room at Moreton in Marsh, and £5,000 towards the first ticket office at Hanborough. A memorial plaque for them both is on the rear wall of the waiting room.

We have a number of ideas for improvements at stations where funding by us could create match funding from other bodies so a legacy left in your will would be put to good use.
