Bridge closure forces cancellation of CLPG charter train

The sudden closure of the railway between Oxford and Didcot has forced the cancellation of the CLPG”s Cotswold Torbay Express charter train, which was due to run on Saturday, April 22.

With the route into Oxford not available due to trains being barred from using the subsidence-affected Nuneham Viaduct over the River Thames north of Culham, there was not enough time available to replan the route and timings for the charter train to Paignton.

The empty train would have arrived at Oxford from the Didcot direction in the morning and the return journey from Devon was also due to use the line in the evening to reach the Cotswold Line.

CLPG chairman John Ellis has written to all the people who had booked tickets for the train about the arrangements for refunds of their payments – click here to read the letter.

It is hoped to arrange a new date for a train from the Cotswold Line to the Devon coast in the autumn.

Further information will be posted on this website when it is available.
