Safety checks on IETs hit Cotswold Line services

Urgent safety checks on Great Western Railway’s IET express trains mean that most Cotswold Line services on Saturday, May 8, will be cancelled.

Cracks have been found in the suspension of a Hitachi-built Class 80x type train, so all units of this design operated by GWR, London & North Eastern Railway, TransPennine Express and Hull Trains have been taken out of service for inspection.

As a result, GWR is set to cancel most of its long-distance high-speed services throughout the day, but a limited service on the Cotswold Line to and from London Paddington will continue, operated by Class 165 Turbo diesel units.

Passengers are advised to check whether their trains are running before setting out to the station. Service updates are available at the following links:

Passengers travelling between Herefordshire, Worcestershire and London can use GWR tickets on West Midlands Railway and Avanti West Coast Trains services to travel to and from London Euston via Birmingham.

GWR local services, including those on the route between Great Malvern, Worcester, Cheltenham, Gloucester and Bristol are operating to normal timetables.
