We’re delighted that Charlbury’s much loved, Brunel-designed station was awarded second place in the rail industry’s 2026 Rail Awards, in the Small Station of the Year category. The announcement came at a gala dinner held at The Grosvenor House Hotel on London’s Park Lane. The judges cited the high standard of service at the ticket office and the general welcoming environment.
Congratulations and thanks to Carl Rodhouse for his friendly and efficient service in the ticket office. Credit also to Georgie Slack and her helpers for ensuring the station garden always looks so good, John Partington for the charity book shelves, and Hugo Pickering and team for the invaluable Café de la Gare.
In Carl’s true style, after his shift should have finished and in the presence of the photographer, he found time to save money for passengers by offering a more favourable fare and on two occasions unlocked the door enabling access to the toilet facilities. What a star!
Carl is pictured proudly standing next to the Highly Commended certificate now displayed in the public area of Charlbury Station ticket office.
