Paddington station Christmas closure affects London links

Cotswold Line train services will be altered over Christmas, during a four-day closure of London’s Paddington station due to construction work for the new HS2 station at Old Oak Common in west London.

In addition to the two-day shutdown of most of the railway network on Christmas Day (Monday, December 25) and Boxing Day (Tuesday, December 26), Paddington will also be closed on Christmas Eve (Sunday, December 24) and on Wednesday, December 27.

As a result, Cotswold Line services on these two days will start and finish their journeys at Reading, along with other GWR long-distance services to and from South Wales and the South West.

Cotswold Line passengers will have three options to travel in and out of central London on December 24 and 27:

  • Change at Oxford and travel on Chiltern Railways services to and from London Marylebone.
  • Change at Reading and use South Western Railway services to and from London Waterloo. Please note that this route is expected to be very busy with passengers connecting to and from other GWR long-distance trains.
  • Use GWR or Elizabeth Line trains between Reading and Ealing Broadway to connect with London Underground services on the Central Line and District Line.
