Track renewals cause closure between Evesham and Worcester

A shutdown for track renewal work next week means that GWR trains will not be able to run between Evesham and Worcester Shrub Hill and between Cheltenham Spa and Worcester Shrub Hill from Monday, April 22, to Friday, April 26.

During the closure, Cotswold Line trains will only operate between London Paddington and Evesham, with buses replacing trains at stations between Evesham and Worcester Foregate Street, and GWR trains between Cheltenham Spa and Worcester, where passengers will be able to connect to and from West Midlands Railway trains on the route between Birmingham, Worcester, Great Malvern and Hereford.

While most Cotswold Line services will start from and terminate at Evesham, during the morning peak the usual 07.51 departure towards London (calling at Honeybourne at 07.58) will not operate. Instead this service will start from Moreton-in-Marsh at 08.10, calling at Kingham, Charlbury and Hanborough.

In the afternoon peak, the 17.34 from Paddington will terminate at Moreton-in-Marsh and the Turbo unit that forms the 17.04 halts train from Didcot Parkway will return straight to Oxford at 18.19, calling at Kingham, Shipton, Charlbury and Hanborough, so the usual 18.51 service from Evesham to Oxford will not run.

Car parking will not be available at Evesham station from today, Friday, April 19, until Saturday, April 27, due to the spaces being needed for the rail replacement buses.

CrossCountry Trains services that call at Worcestershire Parkway and Ashchurch for Tewkesbury will operate normally all next week.

  • There will be two further periods of major engineering work affecting Cotswold Line services during the summer. No trains will operate through Oxford from Saturday, July 27, to Wednesday, July 31, inclusive, while Network Rail installs a new bridge over Botley Road at the south end of Oxford station, and there will be a closure of the route between Charlbury and Moreton-in-Marsh running from Monday, August 12, to Thursday, August 15.
