Paddington closure affects Christmas trains

In addition to the regular shutdown of GWR services on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, Cotswold Line trains will be altered on Christmas Eve and Friday, December 27, due to the closure of the line between London Paddington and Slough for engineering work.

On both these days, trains to and from Oxford and the Cotswold Line will start and finish their journeys at Slough. Most other GWR long-distance services will run to and from Reading.

Cotswold Line passengers will have three options to travel in and out of central London on December 24 and 27:

  • Change at Oxford and travel on Chiltern Railways services to and from London Marylebone.
  • Change at Reading and use South Western Railway services to and from London Waterloo. Please note that these are expected to be very busy with passengers connecting to and from other GWR long-distance trains.
  • Use GWR trains to and from Slough, where connecting buses will provide links to the London Underground stations at Ealing Broadway and Hillingdon, to enable passengers to travel to and from central London.

From Saturday, December 28, until New Year’s Eve, a modified timetable will be in operation. Some services will not run and there will be some changes to departure times at Paddington, so passengers are advised to check their journeys in advance.

Network Rail is carrying out major improvement work on overhead power cables and track in the Southall area over the Christmas period.
